This event is part of Classical:NEXT – a global conference of professionals for all sectors of classical and art music.

Nonclassical DJ sets will feature as part of Classical:NEXT’s Showcase Festival – a live concert series of artists and productions across different formats, providing a unique opportunity to experience a number of performances in a short amount of time.

The club showcase will feature Nonclassical DJ sets from Blue Maignien and Gabriel Prokofiev.

Gabriel Prokofiev is a composer and producer of electronic and classical music and the founder of Nonclassical record label and events, where he is the resident DJ. Through Nonclassical, he has been one of the leading proponents of presenting classical music in non-traditional venues.
He has composed 8 concertos; his Concerto for Turntables has become one of the most widely performed recently composed concertos. His orchestral works have been performed by Seattle Symphony, Detroit Symphony, St Petersburg Philharmonic, Beethoven Bonn Orchester, BBC Philharmonic, MDR Leipzig, Buenos Aires Filharmonica and others. He has composed extensively for contemporary dance (Stuttgarter Ballet, Rambert Dance, Birmingham Royal Ballet). He is currently composing his first piano trio for the Van Baerle Trio. He cut his musical teeth in the 2000s producing electronic dance music and grime, before returning to his classical roots with a new urban-influenced musical vocabulary.

Blue Maignien is a keen supporter of contemporary music. They manage music labels (Nonclassical/Cherche Encore), produce events and festivals and support community-led orchestras and ensembles. They sometimes perform live-coded music and visuals under the moniker Hortense (previously in London at Cafe Oto and Corsica Studios, in Stockholm at Fylkingen, in Tokyo at Soup and more).
